03.26.2022

Natural stones have taken the world of kitchen countertop materials by storm. It is a highly strong and durable material; thus, giving other materials a run for their money. But can you put hot pans on granite? And the best countertop for hot pans? Here is everything you need to know about the thermal resistance of stone countertops.

Can you put hot pans on stone countertops?

There is no such thing as the stone countertops being cracked or damaged by just putting a hot pot or pan on the surface once. Stone countertops are great at resisting heat and high temperatures, so it is quite safe to say that you can put hot things on the countertops. It’s better, though, not to make it a habit. You can do it once or twice, but too much contact with hot things on the countertop can cause some sort of damage.

Can repeated heat damage the countertops?

As mentioned above, you can put hot pans and pots on the surface of a stone countertop. What you don’t want to do is get into a habit of doing it too much. It’s alright if you do it once in a while, but doing it every day can put the countertop through the wringer, and it can damage the stone greatly. This will reduce the durability of the countertop, and you will see that it weakens the countertop a lot too. You want to be careful when handling hot things on the countertops, as this can really mess up the composition of the stone, and it can ruin the countertop.

What is the best way to avoid damage to countertops from hot stuff?

Create a barrier between hot pans and countertops

If you are someone who uses and handles hot things on your countertops, then try to invest in some trivets. This will give a good barrier between the countertop and the hot thing, and it will also ventilate the hot pot or pan from the bottom so that it cools quicker. This is a great thing to use if you do put things right on top of the surface of the countertop because it will prevent those black stains from forming on the countertop. It is truly a great thing to use in the kitchen.

Prevent stains for the long-lasting shine

You might have noticed that whenever you put hot pots and pans on the countertop, and if the thing is too hot, then it will leave a dark mark or stain on the surface of the countertop. This is very common, and it is basically the heat putting a dark stain on the stone. This can be hard to remove, and it is a great hassle, so it’s best to avoid these situations by not putting too hot things directly on the countertop surface. Avoid asking if you can put hot pans on marble and use trivets and coasters for these things instead. You’ll thank us later.

Remember! Some care can increase the life of your countertops.

There you have it! To answer, can you put hot stuff on granite, marble, and others: stone countertops are great at resisting heat and high temperatures, but care should be taken when handling hot things directly on top of a countertop surface. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
